“Life is But a Weaving”(also referred to as “The Tapestry”) is a poem that was written by Corrie Ten Boom, author of the book, “The Hiding Place.” (hint: if you haven’t read it, it is in our church library, so check it out!!) This is a good reminder that no matter what our circumstances, God is still in control and can see the big picture, even when we can’t. We all have gone through some difficult times or know someone who has. Her words are powerful.
My life is but a weaving
Between my God and me.
I cannot choose the colors
He weaveth steadily.
Oft’ times He weaveth sorrow;
And I in foolish pride
Forget He sees the upper
And I the underside.
Not ’til the loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly
Will God unroll the canvas
And reveal the reason why.
The dark threads are as needful
In the weaver’s skillful hand
As the threads of gold and silver
In the pattern He has planned
He knows, He loves, He cares;
Nothing this truth can dim.
He gives the very best to those
Who leave the choice to Him.
I challenge you to read, “The Hiding Place.” What a powerful and humbling example Corrie is as she remained focused on God after the atrocities she witnessed and experienced. I don’t know about you, but I have room to grow in this area! Be willing to listen to those who need a shoulder to cry on, or be willing to open your heart when you are the one in need. And remember, even when all we can see is a jumbled mess of thread, our loving Father sees the finished artwork!
